If you’ve already been making the home budget for your house, you can use this article to figure out if you’ve missed something out.
Regular expenditures: A part of your income should be dedicated to the regular expenditures at home. We’re talking about groceries, food items, toiletries, eating out, petrol or transport costs etc. that you would have to spend on every month. Of course, this might even make up for the largest segment of your budget.
Bills: Every household will incur bills and it would be the smartest for you to allocate a particular portion of your income to paying the bills. In a couple of months, you will be able to get a fair idea of how much the electricity bill or the water bills come up to, so you can just put aside that much money. You should be ready to pay your electricity bills, water bill, telephone bill, internet, credit card bill, insurance premium, deposit premiums etc.
Special expenditure: Of course, your regular expenditures will not let you have all that you need. You need some things that require huge investments, so you have to be ready to buy those too. If you take a loan to buy these things, you would still have to pay a certain amount as EMI every month. However, the special expenditures would require you to have some kind of a saving as well, for you will need this for a lot of reasons.
Savings: Unless the going is really tough, you should do all you can to ensure that you have the right kind of savings as well. You don’t necessarily need to drop most of your earnings into savings, but ensure that you’re saving a good amount. Savings are what will help you meet any rainy day requirements. You would also need some amount of savings to make any investments- including the real estate and the stock market.
Investment: It would be amazing if you could work some amount of money for investment when you’re coming up with a workable home budget. Investments do require a little amount of risk, but they usually give good returns, and some times, amazing ones. Investments could be in stock markets, bonds, shares, real estate- almost anything that you would wish to invest in.
These are just some important components that would help a household come up with a workable budget that will let you have a good present while saving up for your future. The exact weightage given to each of these components would depend on the household itself, and the income generated per month.
